About the business and the brief
Glasmagasinet is a Gothenburg institution in glass, interior and design. With a physical store in the city centre and a loyal customer base, the brand had a strong offline presence but needed a digital platform that matches the in-store experience - and that captures customers who shop online, discover products through social media or search for specific brands and designers. The brief from Glasmagasinet was to build an e-commerce platform that brings the tactile, premium feel of the store into the digital shopping experience. Hive Creatives owned technical development, e-commerce functionality, UX design and product feed management.
Challenge
Translating a premium physical shopping experience into e-commerce is technically and creatively demanding. The products are design-driven - glassware, vases, interior details - where the customer often wants to see the material, the size, the finish in detail. At the same time the product catalogue is broad and varied, covering everything from affordable gift items to exclusive design pieces from world-renowned brands. Add requirements for mobile-first UX (most discovery happens on phone), fast load times despite rich product imagery, seamless checkout, local and national shipping and a visual tone that feels premium without being exclusive - and the complexity becomes clear.
Solution
We built an e-commerce platform where the products are the hero. Large, high-resolution product images with zoom functionality, clean product pages and a smooth, mobile-first shopping experience. The catalogue is structured by brand, category and price range, making it easy to browse both inspiration-led and goal-oriented visits. Technically the platform handles the full e-commerce flow: product feeds for Google and Meta, stock synchronisation, shipping integration and a streamlined checkout. The design is clean, premium and deliberately minimal - mirroring the in-store shopping experience where the products speak for themselves.Translating a premium physical shopping experience into e-commerce is technically and creatively demanding.
